Talented Trio Trips to Lawrence
With the Lawrence, Kan. campus less than an hour away from their respective homes in Blue Springs, all three are already quite familiar with KU's campus.
However, when word spread quickly through the message boards that the trio would visit the football program together on Thursday...well, that made Kansas fans sit up and take notice.
"It was cool," Miller said. "We just hung out with the guys and had a good time."
This time around, the three friends toured the programs new indoor practice facility at the Anderson Family Football complex, spent time with members of the coaching staff – including recruiting coordinator and running backs coach Reggie Mitchell – and checked out the on-campus dormitories reserved for student-athletes.
Also on the visit was Roeland Park (KS) Bishop Miege offensive lineman Phil Ford (who ultimately committed to the Jayhawks at the end of the day), another highly-touted Kansas City product and close friend of the Blue Springs Trio. All four visiting prospects had the chance to spend time in the dorm room of newly-minted Jayhawk freshmen Dexter McDonald and Keeston Terry, talking about the program, the university and life in general.
All in all, Thomas said, it was a great trip.
"I've been there three times," he noted. "And it was a good time. I felt kind of at home, I'm not gonna lie."
There's been a great deal of talk in the recruiting world about how closely linked the Blue Springs prospects may or may not be. Is the chance to play together important enough to them that they can be considered a package deal?
While each will ultimately make the decision best for them, they have talked about it at length – and it is something that could play a factor. To date, only Nubine has yet to garner a Kansas offer, and he spoke to Head Coach Turner Gill via telephone about that very topic Thursday afternoon.
"He told me I did a pretty good job at the (recent Friday Night Lights) camp and he told me where I was sitting offer-wise, and that's about it," Nubine explained.
So where does he sit offer-wise? Is he closer to one now that the staff has had the chance to evaluate him in person?
"It feels that way," he said. "They told me they're not too sure if they're going to take a wide receiver this year, because they took five last year. They told me if they do take one this year that I'll seriously be considered, and I'm one of their top people to think about."
If he is eventually offered, to hear Miller and Thomas tell it, that could mean big things for the Jayhawks 2011 recruiting class.
"We talked about it prior to today, but I think everybody just kind of knows what the deal is," Miller said, of playing together in college. "If they throw Jordan an offer it's a done deal."
"If KU were to offer Jordan we would probably all end up there, honestly," Thomas added.
It's an opportunity Nubine thinks about quite a bit.
"That would just be awesome to play with them in college," the big wide receiver said. "If that could happen I think that would be fun."
