Luhrsen Reports KU Offer
That's because they represent a serious commitment on the part of a college program. A Division One scholarship offer tells a prospect a head coach thinks enough of him to set aside one of the team's invaluable roster spots in the hope he will fill it and, in the process, become a part of his program's future success. Well, it appears as if the coaches at the University of Kansas respect Luke Luhrsen. A 6-foot-4, 280-pound offensive guard from Wheaton, Ill., Luhrsen attended Head Coach Turner Gill's Friday Night Lights camp last week, where he had the chance to put his talents on display for Gill and the rest of the coaching staff. Evidently, they liked what they saw. "They offered me a scholarship on Monday," Lurhsen said. "I did not know (an offer was coming). I've been talking to them before the camp, and they just wanted me to come down to camp for the day. So I got in touch with (offensive coordinator) Chuck Long and made it happen." The Jayhawks are the second D-1 program to offer the big offensive lineman, in addition to the University of Louisville – with whom Luhrsen also camped. Though he didn't get much of a chance to explore the Lawrence (Kan.) campus last week, he has had time to draw some early impressions of Gill and Co. – all of which are favorable. "I like both of them a lot," Luhrsen said, of Gill and Long. "Chuck Long is a Wheaton guy, which is my hometown, and he's a really nice guy. I know my friend Reilly O'Toole, who is our quarterback, all of his siblings go to Kansas, and he speaks highly of Chuck Long and Turner Gill also." Luhrsen hopes to bring an end to his recruitment soon, and though there's always room for another program to make a late push, it appears as if the Jayhawks and Cardinals will square off for his services. "I'm gonna wait another couple of weeks," he said, of when he plans to commit. "I'd like to visit both of the schools, Kansas and Louisville, at least one more time before I make a decision, but I'm not sure. I'd like to commit before probably the end of next month, or at least definitely the end of summer."
