Wasn't Meant To Be
You just knew it. When Jabahri Brown scores seven points in just eight
minutes of play, the planets are not aligned for an easy afternoon in Norman.
Need more proof? Oklahoma (19-4 overall, 10-2 Big 12) guards Hollis Price
and Quannas White combined for 7-9 from behind the arc and together scored 38
points. Kansas down by 32 points early in the second half. Ouch.
Tough to steal a win against a pumped up, motivated and talented Oklahoma squad
playing at home. It wasn't meant to be, as the Sooners downed the Jayhawks
77-70 on Sunday afternoon.
Hinrich and Simien Shoulder the Load
Offense was hard to come by, especially in the first half as the Jayhawks trailed
47-26 at the break. Early in the second half, Aaron Miles missed on four
attempts at the basket, Langford and Graves each missed one - and the Jayhawks
only managed to add only one point (a freethrow from Nick Collison) to their
halftime total going into the first TV timeout. Oklahoma? They hit
5-6 from the field in that stretch and led the Jayhawks 59-27 with just over
15 minutes to play.
It was at this point in the game that the KU bus driver was seen leaving with
keys in his hand.
All was not lost, however, as Kansas managed to finally find some legs offensively,
successfully getting the ball inside to Wayne Simien and Nick Collison.
Simien, despite playing with obvious pain in his right shoulder, managed to
score 17 points and grab 7 boards in just 24 minutes of action. Collison,
who struggled to find the basket in the first half, added a double-double scoring
15 points and nearly matching that total in rebounds with 14. Senior guard
Kirk Hinrich dropped in 21-points on 8-15 shooting before fouling out late in
the game.
