Looking back, though, it was on that track, with Williams by his side, that Jeff Graves said his outlook on everything -- basketball, his attitude, his life -- began to change.

"I don't know what happened to me that day... a light came on or something," Graves said. "No coach had ever cared about me like that before. I had mad respect for him for running with me like that.

"I realized then what Coach Williams was trying to do. He's shaping me into a different person."
