Jayhawks On Big List For Big Guy

When you stand 6-foot-6 and tip the scales at nearly 300 pounds, you're going to draw your fair share of attention. But Big Walnut (OH) High School offensive tackle Skyler Schofner doesn't seem to mind.
That's what happens when you count some of the nation's best and brightest college football programs among your admirers.
"At the beginning, there for awhile it was stressful and stuff because there were so many schools, but it's kind of nice"
Skyler Schofner
said. "You're a role model for a lot of kids, and a lot of people look up to you, so you've got to set good examples wherever you go. You never know when someone is watching you."
As one of the top prospects in the Buckeye State, Schofner is taking a "marathon" approach to his recruitment. Though his offer list currently stands at 20, including from programs like
Kansas
,
Wisconsin
,
Michigan
,
Michigan State
,
Purdue
and
Kentucky
, a leader has yet to emerge.
After recently transferring to Big Walnut from nearby Johnstown-Monroe (OH) High School, Schofner said that he hasn't had much time for setting up visits and delving deeper into the process. As a result, he wasn't comfortable forming an opinion based on strictly superficial factors.
"I'll probably make (a decision) after football season," the big lineman said. "Right now, I'm considering everyone. I can't be judging anyone right now (by games) on TV and all of that. I want to see for myself."
With a Kansas offer on the books for some time, Schofner said that he was definitely interested in the Jayhawks and that an official visit to Lawrence would "probably" take place in the coming months – schedule permitting.
Nothing is guaranteed, however, as Schofner explained that he would be watching the coming season, and the teams recruiting him, with great interest.
"I want to see some things first," he said. "And talk to some coaches; see how a lot of the schools do this year."
