More news and notes while thinking that the older I get, the shorter the football season lasts.

•    A Kansas win would give the Jayhawks consecutive seven-plus win seasons for the first time since 1960 (7-2-1) and 1961 (7-3-1). It would also mean victories in five out of KU’s last six senior days.
•    It would also be the Jayhawks’ first victory against Texas since the formation of the Big 12 Conference.
•    A win over the #4-ranked Longhorns would be KU’s first against a team ranked as high as #4 since KU beat No. 4 Colorado in 1995.
•    WR Dexton Fields needs three receptions to pass Clark Green (122) for fourth on the KU career receptions list. He also needs a TD catch to tie Brandon Rideau for fifth on the KU career touchdown receptions list (15).
•    If he grabs six catches Saturday, WR Dezmon Briscoe would jump Marcus Henry, Emmett Edwards, Charles Gordon and Harrison Hill for seventh place on the KU career receptions list with 109.
•    He needs just 38 receiving yards to become the 11th player in school history with at least 1,500 career receiving yards and 34 yards to become the fourth player in KU history with 1,000 receiving yards in a season. A 100-yard receiving game would give Briscoe five 100-yard games in a season, tying him with Marcus Henry (2007) and Bob Johnson (1983) for the school record.
•    Four more catches will put WR Kerry Meier in a group of just 13 players in Jayhawk history with 100 career catches. Two more catches and he’ll set a new KU season record (71).
•    QB Todd Reesing needs 37 completions to pass the school record of 276 he set last season. Just 54 more passing yards will put him past Mike Norseth (2,995) for second on the KU season passing yardage list. Reesing already owns the school record with 3,486 yards passing last year.
•    Reesing (27) needs one touchdown responsible for (rushing or passing) to move ahead of Bill Whittemore (28) for the second best season in school history. Again, Reesing already holds the record with 36 set last year.
•    Reesing has thrown a touchdown pass in 15 consecutive games.
•    If Meier does reach 100 catches, he will join teammates Briscoe (120) and WR Dexton Fields (103) in the 100 Catch Club. KU had a trio of 100-reception players in 2005, too, in Mark Simmons, Clark Green and Charles Gordon.
•    RB Jake Sharp is averaging 108.5 yards rushing per game in Big 12 games, second only to Oklahoma State’s Kendall Hunter (119.0).
•    Dezmon Briscoe is #2 in the conference in receiving yards per game in Big 12 games with 101.7 yards. Okie State’s Dez Bryant leads the league with 116.0.
•    Since the formation of the Big 12, KU is 8-4 on Senior Day. Texas has handed the Jayhawks three of their four losses (1996, 2000, 2004). The other loss came at the hands of Oklahoma State (2002).
•    Don’t let the cold weather scare you away from giving Kansas’ seniors a great send-off. •    Kansas is expected to draw 50,000-plus to the game against Texas, which will give the Jayhawks’ five out of seven home games drawing 50,000-plus.  Prior to this season, the Jayhawks had only had 19 crowds of 50,000-plus in its history. The only seasons KU drew 50K-plus were 2003 and 2007, when there were two 50,000-plus crowds each year.
•    On November 15th in history… Kansas City pitcher Bret Saberhagen won the American League Cy Young Award (1989); WIBW TV, channel 13 in Topeka, KS, began broadcasting; and Kansas shutout Oklahoma 13-0, the second straight shutout of the Sooners by the Jayhawks (1930)
