AMES, Iowa - Behind 18 points from Darrell Arthur and a season-high 63.6 percent shooting from 3-point range, the University of Kansas topped Iowa State 75-64 in front of 13,624 fans Wednesday night in Hilton Coliseum.
Kansas
improved to 25-3 overall and 10-3 in Big 12 games, while
Iowa State
dropped to 14-14 overall and 4-9 in the league.
Darrell Arthur
added a season-high tying 10 rebounds to go with his 18 points in 31 minutes of action.
Mario Chalmers
and
Brandon Rush
added 15 points apiece.
Russell Robinson
collected a career-high 10 rebounds to go with five points and five assists.
The Jayhawks nailed 7-of-11 from beyond the arc and controlled the glass 43-30.
Iowa State was paced by
Wesley Johnson
with 20 points and
Jiri Hubalek
with 14 points and eight boards.
After trading early baskets, KU took a 5-3 lead on a Rush 3-pointer at the 17:51 mark and never looked back. Mario Chalmers led the early attack, draining two treys and notching 10 points in the first nine minutes of the game. With the perimeter game established, the Jayhawks went to the block where Darrell Arthur pumped in 12 first-half point to go with seven boards. Kansas led at the break 36-23.
Iowa State surged to open the second period and quickly cut the Jayhawk lead to six at the 18:20 mark with the score 36-30.
After calling timeout to regroup, the Jayhawks rattled off 10-straight and eventually pushed its lead to 22 at the at 57-35 with 11:22 remaining.
Although the Cyclones were able to keep within striking distance, Kansas held off the pressure and defeated ISU 75-64.
Kansas returns to Allen Fieldhouse for the first time in two weeks when the Jayhawks take on in-state rival
Kansas State
at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 3 in a game televised by ESPN. After battling the Wildcats, KU will quickly turn around to host
Texas Tech
on Monday, March 3 when ESPN's College Gameday Crew will be on hand.
