Kansas Pops Corn in Lincoln, 79-58

LINCOLN, Neb. - Brandon Rush scored 19 points to lead all scorers as No. 3 Kansas remained undefeated with a 79-58 win at Nebraska here Saturday evening at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Brandon Rush was one of four Jayhawks in double figures as KU improved to 16-0 on the season and opened conference play with a win for the 17th-straight season. The Cornhuskers dropped to 11-3 overall and 0-1 in Big 12 Conference action.

The hot-shooting Jayhawks opened the game with seven-straight points, before allowing the Huskers to get on the board. Rush, who scored 16 of his game-high 19 points in the opening frame, led the charge making 4-of-6 from the field in the first half, including make all four of his attempts from beyond the arc.

Nebraska stayed in it the game though, trimming the KU lead to three points at 23-20 on two Cookie Miller foul shots with 8:18 to play in the opening period. Kansas then hit the gas again, as the Jayhawks closed the half on a 19-10 run to hold a 42-30 advantage heading into the break.

The Jayhawks kept the hot hand in the second half, extending their lead to as many as 22 points with 7:14 remaining as the Cornhuskers could not match the KU offensive output.

Mario Chalmers, Sasha Kaun and Russell Robinson also found their way to double digits for KU with Chalmers notching 14 points and Kaun and Robinson each contributing 10. Darnell Jackson and Darrell Arthur both finished with eight points.

Jackson led the Jayhawks on the boards with eight, while Rush grabbed six rebounds and Robinson pulled down five. Chalmers had six assists to lead KU.

KU made 28-of-52 shots, good for 53 percent, while holding Nebraska to just 40.0 percent shooting. Kansas made 10-of-22 shots from beyond the arc. The Jayhawks also out did NU on the boards owning a 37-24 lead for the game.

Kansas returns to Allen Fieldhouse for the first of its three ESPN/Big Monday appearances when they host Oklahoma on Jan. 14. Tip time for the OU contest is set for 8 p.m.
