"I committed June 7 to Kansas," said Isiah Barfield from Haven, (Kansas). "I grew not too far away from the school. It's a very nice campus. It all works out for the best."
"It feels real awesome to be committed. I have a lot of weight lifted off my shoulders. I was recruited by coach [Brandon] Blaney. He is real nice. He texted me everyday. I am 100% committed to Kansas."
Barfield didn't receive the offer from the Jayhawks until after his camp performance in Lawrence.
"I received the offer right after the camp," he said. "Coach [Mark] Mangino told my mom about the offer. He came up to me after the 7-on-7. He asked me what I would do if I had a full ride to Kansas. I told him I would gladly accept. I committed right on the spot."
Barfield showed his skills at two different positions during the summer camp. His height and speed help give him the opportunity at several positions on the next level.
"I was recruited to play defensive back, wide receiver and kick-return," he sid. "I would prefer to play defensive back but, it doesn't matter to me."
"At the camp I measured 6-0, 175-pounds and I ran a 4.40 in the 40 [yard dash]. There were two different sessions at the camp. I worked with both the defensive backs and wide receivers. It was a good learning experience for me. I learned some things I am going to take back with me."
Barfield's only scholarship offer came from the Jayhawks. He was recruited by several schools, and if they offer his decision is final.
"I had not picked up any other offers," he said. "I had received interest from Tulsa, Colorado, Kansas State, Illinois, Michigan State and Duke. I won't take anymore visits. I am 100% committed."
