Technically, the University of Kansas is a player in the race for Kyle Singler.
Technically, the Kansas City Royals are a contender to win the World Series.
Singler, the elite 6-9 WF out of South Medford (Ore.), gives an official list of no more than five schools: UCLA, Duke, Kansas, North Carolina and Arizona. The Wildcats don't even make the list every time, but in fact, their chances aren't much worse than those of the Jayhawks and Tar Heels.
Rumored for months to heavily favor the Bruins and Blue Devils, Singler confirmed at last weekend's Easter Classic that those two programs are well in front of the pack.
"Yeah, those are definitely the two leaders," Singler said. "I'd like to take visits to the other places, but it will be tough for it not to be one of the two."
Those visits may or may not happen. Singler, who gets increasingly greater pressure from the media to communicate what he feels about the schools recruiting him, said he'd consider not taking those visits and making a commitment sometime in the next couple of months.
With Duke and UCLA on opposite ends of the country, Singler obviously has a lot to consider. Both schools have established tight relationships with the easy-spoken forward."
I just love both coaches and the players at both schools," Singler said.
Singler added that he admires the other schools on his list tremendously, but recruiting frequently boils down to relationships and at this point UCLA and Duke look to have established the strongest ties.
For Kansas, Singler remains a target -- and the Royals are just seven and a half games out of first place.
