BOULDER, Colo. - The University of Kansas Jayhawks (3-4, 0-4) fell to the University of Colorado Buffaloes (5-2, 3-1), 44-13, Saturday night at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colo.

Neither side could move the ball early in the first quarter, but after a failed fourth down conversion by the Jayhawks, Colorado scored on a 20-yard touchdown pass when CU quarterback Joel Klatt found tight end Quin Sypniewski for the first score of the game with 9:35 remaining in the first quarter.

CU scored again 1:23 later on a safety after punter Kyle Tucker threw the ball out of the back of the endzone to avoid a Colorado touchdown.

With 6:40 remaining in the first quarter, quarterback Jason Swanson replaced Brian Luke under center to make his first appearance of the season. He completed a 40-yard pass to Charles Gordon en route to a nine play, 83-yard, three minute scoring drive. Scott Webb kicked a 25-yard field goal to cap the drive and make the score 9-3.

On the ensuing Colorado drive, the Buffs drove the ball 80 yards in eight plays to score on a 40-yard touchdown pass from Joel Klatt to tight end Joe Klopfenstein to make the score 16-3.

After Colorado turned it over on downs, Scott Webb converted his second field goal of the game to make the score 16-6. Kansas took advantage of CU pass interference and personal foul penalties on the drive and marched 63 yards down the field in 2:57, resulting in the 28-yard field goal for Webb.

On Kansas' next possession, Swanson engineered a 12 play, 46-yard drive, ending with a Swanson seven yard pass to a sprawling Charles Gordon in the back of the endzone. The touchdown was Gordon's ninth of his career and moved him into a tie for 10th place on the school's all-time list. Going into halftime, the Buffs led the Jayhawks by a score of 16-13.

CU outscored the Jayhawks 28-0 in the second half to pull away for the win.
The Jayhawks will be at home next Saturday to face Border Showdown rival University of Missouri. The game is slated for a noon kickoff.
