Bell on His KU Commitment

Bell on His KU Commitment

Tight end Josh Bell verbally committed to KU this week, and while Josh seems sold on KU, how solid is his verbal?. Details inside.<br>

Kansas landed a talented high school tight end this week as 6'7" 250 pound Josh Bell gave a verbal to Mark Mangino and company after his trip to Lawrence.

Bell was back home in Hitchcock, Texas on Monday debating about his college decision with his mother.  At that point in time the phone rang which really got the ball moving.

"Me and my mom were looking at the map and seeing how far Lawrence is from home," said Bell.  I decided it was about 10 hours, that isn’t that bad.  That's when Coach (Earnest) Collins called, and I really started thinking about it.  I decided to go with Kansas for school. I got a chance to talk to him and just about every other coach on the staff.  They all sounded really excited."

Bell went with the Jayhawks over Wisconsin after rescheduling his visit to Madison to head to Lawrence instead for the weekend of December 18th.  Syracuse had also offered a scholarship while Texas A&M was showing interest.  The Lone Star State stand out liked what he saw while checking out the Jayhawks on the tube this past fall.

"I was watching a lot of their games and they just need a couple more people to put them over the top,” said Bell.  I hope and feel I can be one of those people."

Another huge factor was the way Kansas incorporates its tight ends in passing situations.

"They like to throw to their tight ends quite a bit and I like that," said Bell who plans on possibly contributing as a true freshman.  "I believe I will have a chance to step on the field next fall.  If I work real hard all summer and once I get up there, I should be ready to go."

Bell seems sold on Kansas, but he can't sign a letter of intent until National Signing Day in early February.  His only official visit thus far was to Lawrence this past weekend.  "I'm still debating on taking other visits.  I don't think I want to visit anywhere else, but if I do I will call the coaching staff and see if they're cool with it.  If it's something I really want to do, then I will."

Bell indicated he was over 90 percent sure he wanted to stick with Kansas after giving his non-binding verbal commitment on Monday.
