Jake Schermer is a well-respected 6'3" 205 pound linebacker prospect who is looking forward to playing college ball in Lawrence. "I am so happy to get it over with," said Schermer. "I think I picked a great school in Kansas. The fans, players, and coaches we're great during the K-State game."
That was the crowning jewel for Schermer who watched the Jayhawks beat the Cats 31 to 28 a couple of weeks ago. "That was an awesome game. I loved watching the fans tear down the goal posts. There was no way I could pass up on a chance to play in a conference like the Big 12 for four years against schools like Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, and K-State.
Schermer believes he will redshirt next season, then have a great chance to see the field regularly in his second year. "They have so many talented linebackers who are juniors right now. I would love to have a chance to learn from them next year, then get a chance to play for four seasons."
The Ozark, Missouri talent phoned tight ends' coach Brandon Blaney to inform the assistant he had picked KU. "Coach Blaney was very happy. He told me he thought I made a great decision, and that he was excited to coach me at Kansas."
Mark Mangino gave Schermer a call after finding out about his intentions. "It was great to hear from Coach Mangino. I'm looking forward to playing for a coach who has done so well at so many big schools."
Schermer has already called Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, and Tulsa to inform those schools his decision has been made. The future Jayhawk has no plans on re-opening his recruitment. "I'm one of those guys that when I make a decision, I'm not going to change my mind."
