Kansas looks to advance to the Sweet 16 for the fourth straight season. But before the Jayhawks can consider spending next weekend in St. Louis they have to get past the Pacific Tigers.

Kansas takes on the California school today at approx. 3:50 p.m. at Kemper Arena.

The Jayhawks advanced to the second round with a dominating 78-53 win over 13th-seeded Illinois-Chicago.

The Tigers played their way to the second round with a 66-58 upset win over fifth-seeded Providence on Friday night. The 12 seed has now won 16 straight games heading into Sunday's game.

"I didn't know much before the pairings came out. I have known about Coach Thomason for years because he has the reputation as one of the best around," said Kansas coach Bill Self.

"We split Providence and Pacific between our assistants. Our scouting was done before we got to Kansas City. I've been diving into Pacific in the last 12 hours."

At least one Kansas player had heard of Pacific before the brackets were announced last week. Freshman forward David Padgett hails from Reno, Nev.

"I kind of knew a little bit about them just because it's just a few hours from where I'm from," explained Padgett.

"My dad was actually an assistant coach for the University of Santa Barbara a few years ago, which is in their league," said Padgett.

"I got to watch them play a couple times. I knew they were 17-1 in the conference and won their league tournament, so we've got a good test for us tomorrow."
