Following Saturday’s loss to Texas, it’d be easy to think that Kansas could fall into a funk similar to that of last year and drop another one to Baylor on Tuesday night. However, none of that was to be had, as guard Naadir Tharpe helped power the Jayhawks past the Bears 69-52 at the Ferrell Center.

With the victory, Kansas (17-5, 8-1) sweeps the season series with Baylor (14-8, 2-7) and remains in firm command atop the Big 12 standings. They overcame a slow start by relying on their defense to slow down the Bears ability to shoot the ball well. Kansas held Baylor to a season low shooting at 29 percent on 16-55 shooting, while KU was 46 percent from the field, shooting 25-54.

The highlight of the game came at the halftime buzzer, as Andrew Wiggins sank a shot from just beyond halfcourt to give Kansas a 35-27 lead at the break. The shot ironically, was his first field goal of the game after struggling throughout the half and Saturday at Texas. Wiggins would finish with 14 points for the game.

However, it was Tharpe who kept the Jayhawks foot on the gas pedal. His clutch shooting help extend the lead every time the Bears threatened to climb back in to the game. He finished with a game high 22 points, one point shy of a career high, while knocking down four three pointers.

Kansas will return home after their two game Texas roadtrip to meet West Virginia, Saturday afternoon at 3:00 in Allen Fieldhouse.
