In the end the “Dream Team” was merely that, as Kansas granted a transfer release to defensive tackle Marquel Combs to any school outside the Big 12. Combs, who transferred to Kansas from Pierce Community College asked head coach Charlie Weis for the release and it was granted with both sides leaving on good terms.
“Marquel was a great factor in our recruitment of last year’s signing class,” Weis said in a statement. “We would like to wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Combs never appeared in a game with the Jayhawks and leaves despite being a key figure during the recruitment process last winter. Weis originally hinted that he would likely redshirt during the 2013 season.
“I appreciate the Jayhawk community, as well as my teammates and the staff, for all of the support I have received during my time with the program,” Combs said. “It has been an incredible opportunity and I wish them the best of luck the rest of this season and in the future.”
