Cameron Brock gives an update on all the former Red Raider baseball players that are in the Minors and the Majors.

MLB

A.J. Ramos, RHP, Miami Marlins

Ramos racked up his third win in two weeks after throwing two shutout innings Thursday. The Marlins called on Ramos to hold a 3-3 tie against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field. In the seventh inning, Ramos produced a ground out before striking out B.J. Upton and Chris Johnson. Ramos came back in the eighth allowing a single, but producing two more strikeouts. A Donovan Solano RBI single brought in the go-ahead run and Steve Cisheck saved the game for Ramos.

Ramos is now 3-2 with a 3.92 ERA.

60-Day Disabled List

Jeff Karstens, RHP, Pittsburgh Pirates

Josh Tomllin, RHP, Cleveland Indians

AAA

Zach Stewart, RHP, Charlotte Knights: Chicago White Sox

Stewart’s next expected start is Saturday against the Norfolk Tides. Norfolk has scheduled Josh Stinson as their probable pitcher.

Roger Kieschnick, OF, Fresno Grizzlies: San Francisco Giants

Kieschnick continued his slump Wednesday going 0-4 with two strikeouts in Las Vegas.

The Grizzlies returned home Thursday and Kieschnick’s bat once again woke up for a multi-hit game. The 40 man roster player went 2-3 with a double, a walk, and a strikeout.

Kieschnick is currently hitting .265 with 18 doubles, 9 triples, and 11 home runs.

The Grizzlies finish a four game series with the Sacramento River Cats Sunday before hosting a three game series with the Reno Aces.

Kieschnick has been named to the Pacific Coast League All Star Team. The game will take place July 17 in Reno, Nev. Kieschnick has previously been an All Star in the Easten League (AA) and the California League (A Advanced).

Colt Hynes, LHP, Tucson Padres: San Diego Padres

Hynes did not make an appearance Wednesday or Thursday. The Padres continue a four game series throughout the weekend against the Las Vegas 51s. The Tacoma Rainiers travel to Tucson for a three game series starting Monday.

Hynes made the Pacific Coast League All Star Team.

James Leverton, LHP, New Orleans Zephyrs: Miami Marlins

Leverton did not pitch Wednesday or Thursda. The Zephyrs continue a four game home series against the Oklahoma City Redhawks throughout the weekend. The Iowa Cubs hit the big easy for a three game series starting Monday.

Leverton is currently 2-1 with a 2.86 ERA in AAA. He also has one save this season in New Orleans.

AA

Nathan Karns, RHP, Harrisburg Senators: Washington Nationals

Karns threw five innings of one-hit ball in a shortened game Wednesday. The former Major Leaguer allowed two walks and struck out five as the Senators won 5-0.

Karns is currently 6-3 with a 3.69 ERA. The right hander has tossed a complete game this season and struck out 72 batters while tossing 61 innings.

It’s hard to tell when Karns next start will be with doubleheaders against the Bowie Baysox on Friday and Sunday. One thing to expect is that Karns will make one more start before the Eastern League All-Star Break which starts Tuesday.

Chad Bettis, RHP, Tulsa Drillers: Colorado Rockies

In his first appearance since May 11, Bettis tossed five innings recording three strikeouts while allowing three walks, two hits and an earned run. Bettis got nailed with the loss as the Drillers could not produce any runs.

The Monterey High School product was on the disabled list all of June.

Monday is the expected date for Chad Bettis to make his next start.

Jay Johnson, LHP, Reading Fightin Phils: Philadelphia Phillies

Johnson made an appearance Wednesday producing one out and giving up a hit to finish the eighth inning in a 7-4 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

Reading continues a five game series that finishes Monday in New Jersey against the Trenton Thunder.

Johnson is currently 1-2 with 3 saves and a 2.78 ERA.

Bobby Doran, RHP, Corpus Christi Hooks: Houston Astros

Doran’s next expected start is Sunday at Tulsa. Currently, Doran is 6-2 with a 3.32 ERA, 63 strikeouts and two saves. He made a start in AAA in June.

Duke von Schamann, RHP, Chattanooga Lookouts: Los Angeles Dodgers

von Schamann is expected to make his next start Sunday against the Jacksonville Suns. The Duke has been stellar throughout his minor league career with a 10-2 record and a 3.94 ERA. That explains part of the reason the fifteenth round draft pick is already making his second stint in AA after one year.

A Advanced

Zach Fowler, LHP, Frederick Keys: Baltimore Orioles

Fowler threw two shutout innings against the Lynchburg Hillcats Thursday. The only negative was Fowler giving up two walks.

The Keys play Lynchburg Friday and Saturday before receiving Sunday off. On Monday, Frederick travels to Delaware to play the Wilmington Blue Rocks.

Daniel Coulombe, LHP, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes: Los Angeles Dodgers

John Neely, RHP, Quad Cities River Bandits: Houston Astros

Neely did not appear on the mound for the River Bandits Wednesday or Thursday. A five game series against the Kane County Cougars continues until Monday.

Neely currently has 12 saves and a 3.34 ERA. He is 2-4.

Jerad McCrummen, RHP, Tri-City Dust Devils: Colorado Rockies

After coming in with runners at the corners Thursday, Jerad McCrummen got nailed with his first blown save. The odd part about that is the run did not get attached to his name. McCrummen has yet to give up a run in his professional career.

In the process, McCrummen tossed 1.2 innings of shutout baseball against the Boise Hawks including a strikeout. He also picked up his second victory.

Through three games, Wheeler has a 2.45 ERA and five strikeouts.
