Last fall, Kansas head coach Charlie Weis indicated that the Jayhawks presence in the islands would only grow with time, as Weis and his staff used a stellar reputation over time to recruit the area. He also indicated that the presence could expand with a game out there.

Wednesday, the Jayhawks made good on their coach’s words, as they finalized a home and home series with the University of Hawaii, which will take place during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

The series will begin on September 24, 2016, when the Warriors visit Memorial Stadium in Lawrence. A year later, Kansas will return the favor with a trip to Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, on September 2, 2017.

"We are very excited to announce this home-and-home series with Hawaii," Weis said in a statement. "We recognize Hawaii and the Islands as a fertile recruiting territory. Both our current players and prospects are excited that these two games are official.”

It will be the first meeting between the two schools since Kansas defeated Hawaii in Honolulu 33-27 on August 31, 1985.

It will be the Jayhawks first trip to Hawaii, since defeating UCLA 51-30 in the 1995 Aloha Bowl. They also beat BYU in the Aloha Bowl in 1992.
