With the regular season completed and Kansas having just completed the winning of a ninth straight Big 12 regular season title, it’s no shock to see the accolades accumulating.
Senior center Jeff Withey and redshirt freshman guard Ben McLemore were named to the All Big 12 First Team, joined by Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart (who was also named Big 12 Player of the Year), Kansas State’s Rodney McGruder and Oklahoma’s Romero Osby.
Withey was also named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year for a second consecutive season, becoming the first player in Big 12 history to win the defensive award outright in back-to-back seasons.
He has 124 blocked shots, which ranks fourth for a single season in Big 12 history, after setting the record with 140 last season. Withey became the league’s all-time career leader in rejections this year as well with a current total of 289.
Senior forward Travis Releford was named to the Big 12 Second Team, while senior guard Elijah Johnson earned Big 12 Honorable Mention honors.
Withey and Releford were named to the six-person Big 12 All-Defensive Team, while McLemore was selected to the six-person Big 12 All-Rookie Team in addition to his First Team honors.
