Heading into Saturday afternoon’s match up with Oklahoma State (14-5, 4-3), the Kansas Jayhawks (19-1, 7-0) own the nation’s longest winning streak at 18 games. They also are ranked second and first in the AP and Coaches Poll, respectively.

Heading into Saturday afternoon’s match up with Oklahoma State (14-5, 4-3), the Kansas Jayhawks (19-1, 7-0) own the nation’s longest winning streak at 18 games. They also are ranked second and first in the AP and Coaches Poll, respectively.

It’d be easy for the Jayhawks to get caught up reading their own press clippings, but leave it to coach Bill Self to keep them humble and improving with each contest.

“I hope we can keep learning lessons by winning,” Self said at his weekly press conference, Thursday.

Though lessons can be learned through losses, Self dismissed the notion that his team could benefit, as they have acquired similar knowledge with their recent stretch of tough and close wins.

“We’ve done a lot of good things in winning of late, but we haven’t played consistently throughout the course of the game, which we have to improve, because you’re living on borrowed time if you don’t.”

The Cowboys will come into Lawrence, an improved team that could become one of the best in the Big 12 before it’s set and done.

After a 78-76 comeback win over Iowa State, Wednesday, fifth year coach Travis Ford has Oklahoma State improving and they promise to pose some challenges to Kansas.

“I picked them second in our league and from a talent standpoint, they may have as good of a roster as anyone in our league and they’re the most athletic team in our league,” Self said.

Kansas will look to win their 33rd straight home game Saturday, in addition to their 19th consecutive and 20th of the season and continue on their run to tie a school record of 23 straight wins, as well as bringing Self closer to 500 wins (currently at 495).

Despite that, their coach continues to maintain focus and stay the course, as he hopes his team will continue on their way to a ninth straight Big 12 championship come season’s end, a goal that always begins with the next opponent on the schedule.

“I have not thought of either one of those, “ Self said. “I’d love to get to 23. If we did that, it’d be unbelievable, but all that would mean to me is that we’d be 12-0 in the league, so I’m worried more about that than anything else.”
