Ready To Go

Simply put, sixth ranked Kansas cannot wait to hit the Allen Fieldhouse floor, Sunday afternoon, when they host Temple.

The game with the Owls, will mark only Kansas' third game in 15 days and with Big 12 play approaching, Jayhawks head coach Bill Self has adjusted and is ready to go.

"We've had several weeks off," Self said at his weekly press conference, Friday. "That's not good, but it's okay. The way our conference schedule sets up, we will not get a bye week like most teams will because our bye week is spent playing Temple."

Following Sunday's game against the Owls, the Jayhawks (11-1) will open up Big 12 play when they host Iowa State next Wednesday.

But, the Jayhawks will not overlook Temple (10-2), a team that has shown it can knock off big time teams when they took down Syracuse in December.

"It was a great win for Temple on a neutral court and I think it does and will get our team's attention," Self said. "But if anything, from a selfish standpoint, it gives us a better strength of schedule, which does anything but helps us later on down the road.

The non-conference portion of the schedule has been lighter than most years, with only one true road test, but for the Jayhawks, that test, a win at Ohio State, two weeks ago showed Self quite a bit about his team, as January has begun.

"A lot of seasons here, we've only played one or two true road games during the non-conference and you probably want to see how your team reacts to certain situations before you go into league and I think our one true road game we had was great for us because, we played with a lead, we played from behind, we didn't panic certain situations. So, I think that gives me a better feel going into conference play, even though it's just one game." Recommended Stories
