Kansas freshman forward Zach Peters will leave the Kansas basketball program at the end of the fall semester due to recurring health issues, that the Plano, Texas native needs to address.

“Zach has labored with health issues since he has been here,” coach Bill Self said in a release. “His shoulder has improved, but he’s also been dealing with multiple concussions that have become a big source of frustration and concern for him.”

Self said Peters has suffered four concussions since his senior year of high school. Two of them have come in his short time at Kansas.

“I feel bad for Zach,” Self said after Monday night’s win over San Jose State. “He’s fighting it.”

Self went on to say that he believes that Peters may leave sports altogether to focus on getting his health in order.

“To be honest with you guys, if it was my son, I’d tell him to do the same thing,” Self said. “So, I don’t think this is a bad move on his part at all,”
