Sometimes, there are nights where it’s just not happening and it wasn’t going to happen. Kansas was battered for four quarters and when it was over, they had suffered their worst loss of the season, 52-7 to the Oklahoma Sooners, Saturday night in Norman. The Jayhawks fall to 1-6 and 0-4 in the Big 12. Oklahoma improves to 5-1, 3-1 in league play.

The game began with redshirt quarterback Michael Cummings getting the start at quarterback, but after punting on their first possession, the Sooners began the rout, scoring on their first six possessions. They led 38-0 at halftime.

Dayne Crist would alternate with Cummings at times throughout the night, but it was Cummings that played a majority of the second half.

Cummings was 10 of 21 for 11 yards and two interceptions. Crist finished 3 of 6 for 13 yards and a fumble that cost the Jayhawks their only legitimate chance to score in the first half after a muffed punt by the Sooners.

OU was led by quarterback Landry Jones, who was 20 of 29 for 300 yards and three touchdowns. Receiver Kenny Stills hauled in six catches for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Oklahoma also scored two touchdowns via special team. The first came on a 90-yard punt return by Penn State transfer Justin Brown, late in the first half. The second came on The Opening kickoff of the second half by Roy Finch.

KU’s lone touchdown came with 3:11 to play in the game on a one-yard touchdown run by running back James Sims. Sims finished with 27 carries for 97 yards and the one score. He also was the team’s leading receiver with two receptions for 56 yards.

The Jayhawks return home to Memorial Stadium to host Texas on Homecoming, next Saturday at 11 a.m.
