A pair of junior college defensive tackles signed by Head Coach Charlie Weis as part of his first recruiting class at Kansas have caused no end of hand-wringing among the fan base - through no fault of their own.
Ty McKinney and Jordan Tavai have been chomping at the bit to get to Lawrence, Kan., but they needed to wrap up their final JUCO classes first. As luck would have it, the stop dates for each were pushed back considerably. Fall camp began, and neither lineman had yet arrived.
That changed Friday, when Tavai joined the team wearing his signature No. 9 jersey. He wasn't in full gear like the rest of the squad, as he has to complete a handful of practices before being allowed in pads, but he was working out. And that's a positive sign.
Reports surfaced earlier in the day that McKinney is expected to arrive Tuesday, and while both will have some catching up to do they will also be expected to contribute this season, if the defense is to find success.
