Phog First Look: Tyus Jones

Kansas fans should keep track of rising star point guard Tyus Jones of the 2014 class. Jones is a crafty, athletic guard with a fantastic overall feel for the game.

The 2nd-leading scorer in the tournament at 24ppg, Tyus Jones is a 6'1 lead guard capable of carrying his team by himself. Through 3 games, he's shown deep range on his jumper, crafty finishes around the hoop, and the occasional pull-up floater to beat a shot-blocker. While not an elite shooter, Jones demands respect well beyond the 3pt line, making it tough for defenders to keep him out of the lane. His first step is explosive, but it's his crafty use of hesitations and ball-fakes that make him near impossible to stay in front of at the AAU level. Even when matched up against bigger, more athletic wings like Texas Titans' Matt Jones and CIA Bounce's Andrew Wiggins, Jones has still found a way to torch their defenses.

What makes Jones such a fantastic prospect, though, is his elite vision on the floor. Time and time again, he has sliced through defenses only to kick a sharp cross-court pass for an open perimeter shot. There's seemingly no end to Jones' vision, making him a top-notch prospect at the PG position.

After three stellar games in front of a multitude of college coaches, it's inevitable that the top colleges in the country will come calling on the Apple Valley, Minnesota native.

At the moment, he says his list is long and he hasn't had time to evaluate it at all. He did say that the Kansas staff had been in contact with him, though he did not elaborate on which coaches he had spoken with.

Look for the Jayhawk coaches to follow him throughout the contact period and step up their pursuit through his upcoming junior year.
