Immediately after the pick, ESPN analyst Jay Bilas praised the selection and Thomas Robinson's relentless play style.
"He's got great size, length and strength for a power forward," Bilas said. "He's an outstanding defensive rebounder - I think he's the best defensive rebounder in this draft."
Sporting dapper duds, some new bling and a brand new Sacramento Kings hat, an emotional Robinson needed a few moments to compose himself before he was able to respond to the first question of a post-selection interview.
"I'm just happy to be here, man," he said. "Thank God I made it."
The Kansas star rounded out a top five that included Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist of Kentucky, Brad Beal of Florida and Dion Waiters of Syracuse.
