Earlier this week devastation struck the Dallas-Fort Worth
Area, as strong storms tore through the area producing a reported more than 10
tornados.
Luckily, no one was killed from the storms, but the damage
was still crippling to the area.
With news of the damage the Texas Tech football team has
decided to make a trip to the DFW area on Saturday to lend a hand in the
tornado relief effort.
Along with Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville, volunteers from the team will join him on the trip.
“Dallas/Fort
Worth is basically our second home and we were devastated on Tuesday as we
watched the live reports detailing the damage,” said head coach Tommy
Tuberville said in a news release. “We felt like this was the right thing
to do as football program and a university. Going down there and
volunteering our time and providing aid is the least we can do for a community
that has given so much to Texas Tech for so many years.”
Going down there
to help out is not the only thing the Red Raiders are doing to help as Tech has
set one of the football equipment 18-wheeler trailers outside the football
facility to load with supplies.
Now the Red
Raiders are asking fans to donate some needed items to help in the relief
effort.
They will be
accepting donations on Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. to put on the trailer to
send to the DFW area. The items being requested include water, blankets,
nonperishable food, canned food, toiletries, which includes toothbrushes,
toothpaste, soap, shampoo, ect.) and
pet food, canned or bagged.
“DFW really needs
our help right now and I know the great people of Lubbock will rally and help
us collect a ton of supplies that will be put to good use,” said Tuberville in an news release. “We even have a second equipment
truck that is used by the Goin’ Band on standby if we
can collect enough supplies. It would be really great to take two
truckloads down to Dallas on Saturday and help show those folks what Texas Tech
University and West Texas are all about.”
If you cannot
donate any items like this then you can make a $10 donation to the American Red
Cross by texting REDCROSS to 90999 or logging onto redcross.org.
After the team
gets everything loaded up, the team will take a day trip down to the DFW Area
to lend a helping hand to people that are in need in a time of rebuilding.
