Kansas Athletics announced Monday afternoon Tevin Shaw had officially joined the Jayhawks' Class of 2012, by inking a national letter of intent.
Head Coach Charlie Weis and his staff sprung at Shaw almost two weeks ago on National Signing Day, when it became apparent they had a scholarship available and the 5-foot-11, 190-pound athlete was still on the market.
An official visit was quickly set for the weekend of Feb. 10.
"I'm definitely excited to come out and see what it's all about," Shaw told Scout.com in a Feb. 2 interview.
He evidently liked what he saw. He becomes the 18th member of Weis' first signing class at Kansas, in addition to three transfer students, pushing the total number of newcomers to 21.
It's rare to see such a quality talent available this late in the process. Shaw dominated the Garden State on both offense and defense. As a running back, he rushed for 1,529 yards on 245 carries, scoring 23 touchdowns. At safety, he racked up 75 tackles, three picks and a pair of sacks.
Scout.com has messages in to both Shaw and his head coach, Dan Higgins, so stay tuned for more on the newest Kansas Jayhawk.
