5-star 2013 guard eyeing October visit

Though "Late Night in the Phog" is obviously a big recruiting event every year for the coaching staff at the University of Kansas, it's not as if the process comes to a halt once the season-opening festivities conclude. Now, one of the elite perimeter prospects in the Class of 2013 is looking hard at a late October visit to the Lawrence, Kan. campus.

A 6-foot-4, 170-pound shooting guard from DeSoto (TX) High, Matt Jones' offer list reads like a "Who's Who?" of college basketball's elite, and includes programs such as Arizona, Duke, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, North Carolina and Texas.

Scheduled to be in Durham, N.C. for Midnight Madness with the Duke Blue Devils on the weekend of Oct. 14, it looks as if Jones will trip to Lawrence, Kan. later in the month.

"Yes sir, either (the) 22nd or 29th!" he told Phog.net Tuesday.

Jones had a strong summer on the AAU circuit. For example, Scout.com national recruiting analyst Brian Snow had this to say about his play on Day Three of Nike EYBL: Los Angeles.

"A big time scorer, Jones had it working from three as the Titans made a comeback against BABC. He was draining threes at a high level and was instrumental in making things close. He didn't too much off the dribble, but Jones still was a highly productive player."

Regarding his recruitment, Jones doesn't appear to be in a rush to make a decision.

"I don't have a timetable," he told WildcatAuthority.com in mid-September. "When I feel it is the right time, that is when I will make my decision."
