After serving a nine game suspension handed down by the NCAA in mid-November as a penalty for $5,757.58 in impermissible benefits it was determined he accepted as a prep athlete, the much-ballyhooed guard from Baltimore made his debut at Kansas in spectacular fashion. In a Dec. 18 tilt at Allen Fieldhouse with Southern California, Selby scored 21 points and canned a game-winning three-pointer with just seconds remaining.
Despite the fairytale beginning, an injury suffered in February hampered him late in the season, and after his return to the court his playing time and productivity dwindled. He finished the season averaging 7.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.
However, a fully-healthy Selby has been generating buzz on the draft circuit for weeks, as scouts were once again impressed by the athleticism and skill that made him such a highly sought-after prep recruit.
Selby will join fellow Kansas products Darrell Arthur and Xavier Henry with the Grizzlies.
