New name on the 2011 radar?

In last week's Big 12 summer teleconference, Kansas head coach Bill Self indicated the door in Lawrence, Kan. may yet still be open, so to speak, for recruits in the Class of 2011. A new name has popped up on the radar recently, in the form of former Loyola Marymount University forward Kevin Young.

Young holds several freshman records at LMU, where during the 2008-2009 season he averaged 9.1 ppg and 7.2 rpg - recording 19 rebounds in a contest with New Mexico State. As a sophomore during the 2009-2010 season, he upped his point production to 10.9 per game, and added another 5.5 rebounds.

Following his sophomore campaign with the Lions, Young received his release to transfer and ended up at Barstow (CA) Community College where he actually spent the season taking classes and serving as an assistant coach.

During the November signing period, he inked a scholarship agreement with San Diego State University - not a national letter of intent. A scholarship agreement does not bind the player to the school.

In an effort to bolster a frontcourt losing three substantial presences in Marcus and Markieff Morris and Mario Little, Head Coach Bill Self and his staff signed two big men in the spring signing period - Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy product Jamari Traylor, and Braeden Anderson of Wilbraham (MA) and Monson Academy.

At this time, all that can be confirmed is that the Jayhawks are recruiting Young. Check back with Phog.net for more if and when the story develops.
