During Tuesday's post-game press conference, Kansas Head Coach Bill Self answered a handful of questions regarding the latest on the status of the star freshman's eligibility.

On the news they received last week that Selby had been cleared academically:

The news we got the other day was great. That was very, very encouraging like you said. But we have communicated with the NCAA, and they've told us to have no comment, so we're not going to go in to any specific details and that kind of stuff. But I do believe, I don't know when the finish line will be, but I think we'll find out when it is pretty soon.

On trusting the NCAA's process:

I don't know what they have, what they don't have. I'm not privy to that information, so I trust it. I do. I trust it. I think that they're very respectful of the fact that they know that we're kind of hamstrung right now. We need to get this behind us. But I think there's reasons why it hasn't happened yet, and I don't think it's anybody's fault.

On how Selby has personally handled the uncertainty:

He has been unbelievable. For a kid that I didn't think would handle it well at all, he's been great. He's been great, his mother's been great. They've showed patience, and the big thing I think was knowing last week or whenever it was that he was going to be here. To me that's the big thing.

There was a period of time where that appeared to be up in the air itself. Although we never thought, we told him all along 'Hey, Josh, it's gonna work out. It's gonna work out.' But when you don't get a response back that's favorable, over time for whatever reason, more information or whatnot, you get frustrated. But he's been good. He's had maybe one day where he came to practice maybe not as focused as he would have been if he'd known, but that's it.

I mean, he's been great. And I talked to him and he knows firsthand that his reps are going down with the 'blue team,' and he appears to be okay with that.

On the level to which Selby has been performing in practice to date:

He is a guy right now that could be a starter for us. But he's not a guy right now that you would say 'That guy could be one of the best 3-4 players in the league.' He's not one of those guys yet. Will he get to that point? I don't know. But I'm a big believer that by January or February he could be a guy that's that hard to guard, but we haven't seen it yet.
